Ogunquit means “beautiful place by the sea” and it suits the small town in Maine perfectly. Ogunquit, Maine is located on the state’s southern coast and is situated between the Ogunquit River and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a wonderful place to live and visit. There are lots of things to do, scenes to see, and delicious restaurants to dine.

When it comes to unique places to eat in Ogunquit, Maine, Clay Hill Farm should be at the top of your list! After all, what’s more romantic than dining surrounded by nature at a certified bird sanctuary?

Clay Hill Farm

The property was originally built as a working farm in 1780. It remained that way until the mid-1970s when it was converted into a restaurant. At this time, it was known as The Tavern at Clay Hill Farm and was only made up of the current main dining room and the lounge/bar.

One of the best things about the farm is that the two original structures - the red barn and the 18th-century farmhouse- are still standing today and are a big part of the business. They have been beautifully renovated to respect their history and open the doors to new memories.

The property has been owned and operated by the Lewis family since December 1986. Along with the family and their subsequent generations, there are also staff members who have worked with the family since the beginning.

Bird Sanctuary and Natural Wildlife Habitat

They are perhaps the only Ogunquit restaurant to grow their own garden. From this garden, the chef has access to fresh vegetables and herbs they use in the restaurant. You will also notice rain barrels and well-kept composting stations around the property.

The Food

As we mentioned, their food is locally-sourced from Maine, which means you receive nothing but the freshest food.
